I saw this article, posted by a friend on facebook, and it has really made me think. I spend a lot of time photographing my gorgeous children. I'm in less than 1% of those pictures. Partly because I am usually in a spunky photography mood when the daddy is at work (hence no one to take the picture), but mostly because I don't like the way I look. Reading this article gave me some perspective. Its not about how thin or fat I am (or think I am) its about making memories with my babies. This time is so fleeting and its important that we document it for them, since I don't think they'll remember much. I want to make sure I'm part of that documentation, more than just the photographer.
Switching gears, Coach has experienced his very first time out. He's been hitting and throwing a lot lately. Tantrums are at an all time high, as well. Full blown melt downs. He takes toys from his sister and when she resists, he hits her. Hmmm. He likes to push her down, too. I'm not sure where the aggression is coming from, but we've decided its timeout time.
He doesn't understand the concept and he gets pretty upset about having to sit in one spot while his sister plays. I think timeout is going to have to take place in another room or in a pack n play. I sit him down and look in his eyes and tell him that he may not hit/kick/push/etc his sister. I ask him if he understands and he usually nods, but I don't know whether he does actually understand at this age. Fingers crossed it clicks soon.
P.S. One month exactly until my FIFTH wedding anniversary. Holy cow, five years already?

{They're HEEERE!}
I never thought I could be so excited about a horribly made, mass produced, felt costume. However, here I am, jumping out of my skin, oh so ready for Halloween!
Here's why:
They showed up on my front porch during lunch and I just couldn't wait to try them on. I haven't put the rest of the costumes on yet because, honestly I'm afraid that they'll rip them. We're talking cheap construction here folks. You know what? It doesn't matter. They are adorable! Right down to the little felt shoe covers.
They didn't know what to think about the hats, but the good news is they kept them on for more than a few minutes. Seriously hoping it doesn't rain so we'll be able to let them walk around and enjoy being gnomes for an evening :)

{It happened}
Coach has been disrobing every chance he gets. His interest in taking things apart, seeing what's inside, etc has re-focused on his wardrobe. We cannot keep clothes on this child. When we put them on he shrugs his shoulders and walks around as if he has to get used to it. He's a trip. His favorite thing to "work on" are his jammies. All those zippers and snaps are a dream come true.
For the last several mornings I've gone in the nursery to find him unzipped and his diaper all mangled. I knew it was only a matter of time before it happened. Sure enough, this morning I walk in to an unzipped, no-diapered Coach. My stomach sank. I walked over to him and there it was. A turd in the crib. Thankfully (TMI) it was solid and the damage was minimal. He didn't even get it on the bumpers. What a considerate little guy!
It was on his sheets, his jammies and in random places on his skin. Oh and he goosed his sister's bear pretty good too. I guess that's what she gets for throwing all her stuff in his crib, right? Maybe I need to put her crib on another wall if this is going to keep happening. Oh God. I've heard rumors about the toddler poop obsession and to be honest I think I'll die if that starts.
I have a triplet mom friend whose boys used to paint the walls, crib, themselves. I.cannot.handle.that. I told the daddy that he's getting sewn into his pjs from now on. He was wearing a disposable dipe because we can't find a good overnight for toddlers. I might just triple or quadruple stuff cloth for overnight now. He knows how to unsnap, but he gets bored and doesn't make it through all six snaps before moving onto bigger and better things. This might be our answer.
I'm ok with him being naked. That's baby 101. Nakedness solves everything. BUT when he's in his bed or unsupervised (which is only when they're in bed at night), he needs a diaper.
Speaking of cloth, we're done buying! Grand total $273.83 for 32 diapers and 72 inserts. A generous friend sent us cloth wipes, a wet bag and a diaper sprayer. I still need to get that thank you note out. I'm horrible about that! I hit some major sales and found an amazing deal on bamboo inserts. Who knew inserts could be more $$$ than the diapers? For starting so late, I'm pleased with that #. I wanted to stay under $300.
They'll probably potty train in the next year-year and a half. Gosh I hope they're pt'd by 3. We spend $100+ a month on disposables, so we'll make our money back quickly. I'm not sure if these diapers will last for the next baby, but that's the plan right now. I'll add some newborn and prefold to the stash, but this should carry us through potty training with the twins and the next baby, supplementing here and there as needed. Cloth diapers do break down, so there will be some replacements, but that's just the name of the game.
Here are the last two dipes I ordered today that rounded out our stash.
I love minky. They are so soft and they stretch well. I'm not a big pattern fan, but we have a lot of animal print and a handful of cute patterned minky's like these.

{To the grocery store we go}
By now you've discovered that I have a sort of anxiety around taking the babies out by my self. It wasn't always this way. Now, well, now they're toddlers. The world just isn't multiples friendly. And why would it be? Multiples aren't the norm. The public just doesn't deal well with tantrum throwing toddlers, let alone TWO of them. Looks of pity, looks of disgust, you name it. I care less about the looks and comments, I mostly just really don't like messing with their schedule. Its super duper important these days.
The grocery store is one place that's virtually impossible to acomplish with toddler twins, for a variety of reasons. The obvious-One cart holds one baby. Two carts=impractical (impossible) for one parent. Letting them walk? Hahahaahahahahahaahahahaah. Bring the stroller? This is viable IF, and only if, its a light shopping day. Whatever fits in the canopy. And that ain't much.
Stores started to catch on and some stores offer a handful of double carts. Usually though, these hot commodities (large, ridiculous to navigate) are taken by one kid who wants the cool cart. Forget about those of us who NEED them. There is ONE at our grocery store. When I set out to compile my shopping list yesterday I split it into little chunks. You know, just in case the illusive double cart wasn't anywhere to be found (as per usual).
Imagine my surprise when I pulled up to the cart bank outside to find THE cart sitting there waiting for me to claim it! I swung the Pilot into a parking spot, left the car running and ran like a beast to get this cart. I can guarantee you that more than one person in that parking lot thought I was a lunatic. Smiling from ear to ear, I skipped back to the car to get the babies out. I knew they'd be so excited to "drive" the car cart!
1) driving 2) driving and wondering why momma always takes pictures of us 3) Fancy is mesmerized by the wine, must be a Meara ;) 4) over it.
I was in the bandaid/neosporin aisle and there was a weird dude waiting for his prescription in the pharmacy. He waved to the babies, which is fine. He stopped me to ask some questions, which is fine. He then told me that I need to watch out for "that beautiful little girl". I think she's the most beautiful girl in the world, but they way he was looking at her when he said it gave me the heebie jeebies. He went on and on and on about her and asked if "daddy had a shotgun". He was nice enough, he just had the creep factor. So much so that I sat in the parking lot scanning the cars to make sure he wasn't following us.
Tomorrow our workouts continue. I've been itching to get back into it. I need to get the tubes for our jogger (remember the blowout story from JCP?). That beast needs some mileage on it. Happy FRIDAY! Have a fabulous looong weekend!

Shopping was actually fun! They loved waving to everyone and meeting people. They helped me put the groceries in the cart and they held my list for me without tearing it to shreds. The unfortunate realization? That the stars will probably never align again. Oh well. There's a grocery store in the next town over that has online shopping and curbside pickup.

{Bully}
Coach is bigger, stronger, faster and well, ballsier (got that?) than little Fancy. Lately he's become sort of a bully. He wrestles her toys away from her, he edges her out of the way when they're listening to/reading a book and as of late-he pushes her for no apparent reason. He doesn't seem to have malicious intent, he's just dominant. He truly doesn't understand when we pull him aside to tell him not to do that. He gets so upset. We try to correct him without much of a scene since he doesn't really get it and she forgets about it soon after.
I've caught myself laughing under my breath a couple times. Is that bad? Its just so random. I can't help it. Fancy is ok, she doesn't cry. I think she's more shocked when it happens. Their new thing is climbing on the couch (yay) and running across it (double yay). We're having a hard time listening to momma these days. I feel like I chase them off the furniture all.day.long. Well today Fancy took a nosedive. She actually sommersaulted off the couch. She landed on her head, but it was a soft fall-almost like slow motion-so I'm just watching her to make sure she's ok. No tears, she was just surprised.
Fancy has been OBSESSED with books lately. So much so, that she now knows what the next line is. We read them over and over. They love Sandra Boynton books. Their favorite right now is The Going To Bed Book. I can recite it in its entirety, but I'll spare you. There's a part that goes "With some on top and some beneath, they brush and brush and brush their teeth." Before I even get through "with some on top..." she's already smiling and mimicking brushing her teeth. They learned all their animal noises from her books and Dr Seuss. Mr Brown Can Moo Can You is another favorite as well as The Belly Button Book, Perfect Piggies (a personal favorite), Bear Snores On (I'm obsessed with this one) and of course Goodnight Moon.
Can I whine a moment? Let me preface this whine by saying, I know how incredibly blessed I am to be a momma to these two and to get to stay home with them. I love them more than life itself. (WARNING: some not-so-ladylike words ahead). That being said, single parenthood is fucking hard. The daddy left late last week for an (almost) no notice mission. That day it didn't bother me all that much. I put on my wondermomma cape (invisible, of course) and sucked it up.
Today, I'm overwhelmed. Today was even a good day for them, but I'm still overwhelmed. Caring for two small children around the clock, solo is down right draining. No worries, I'll get it together in about 5 minutes, but right now I'm kicking back with Big Bang and some peach iced tea before I start cleaning the house. Don't judge me :)
Today, whenever Fancy is near him, he just shoves her.

{Bonk}
There are lots of bumps and bruises around these parts. Today was no exception. We were walking into their room to go to bed and he took off down the hall. I called to him and he came barreling back toward the nursery. Being a toddler, he trips and stumbles a lot. He stumbled right into the corner of his door jamb. [See large picture below]
Poor little scarface :( I'm sure he'll wake up in the morning with a shiner. I hate when they hurt. It kills me. We snuggled extra tonight and he was doing well when we went to bed. Poor baby.
The rest of the pictures are from lunch. Just some iPhone pics we sent to the daddy.
Today my friend Cara and I started our stroller walking. Whew! We're both at about the same point, so its nice to have someone to pal along with who gets me. We enjoyed our first workout and we will continue tomorrow! We're trying to get together at least 3 times a week (depending on life) and hope to see some great results. On thursday or friday we're hitting up the outlet malls to reward ourselves. Can't wait!

{Sunday Funday}
Today has been a lazy day.
Ordinarily the daddy would get up and make the babies breakfast and let me sleep in.
With the daddy gone, I'm worn out.
Single parenthood is not for the faint of heart.
Of course, Murphy's Law is in full effect.
Murphy's law is an adage or epigram that is typically stated as: "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong". [wikipedia]
Coach had an allergic reaction to a food he's eaten before [Oikos peach greek yogurt]
#1 - The height of the reaction
#2 - Starting to get better
#3 - After frantic texting to my friend Cara and seeing the reaction settle, I can finally chill out...maybe.
#2 - Starting to get better
#3 - After frantic texting to my friend Cara and seeing the reaction settle, I can finally chill out...maybe.
He seems to be ok.
I kept him up about 30 minutes past bed time and I've been checking on him constantly.
So as soon as he started to have that reaction, I heard 3 gunshots.
CLOSE gunshots.
There is a house full of Army bachelors that live up the street and they had a BBQ today.
I think it must have been them.
Fingers crossed that I don't get slaughtered in my bed tonight.
Thankfully, our neighborhood is business as usual since the shots, so I'm going to try to relax.
We hear shotgun shots from time to time, but they're off in the distance.
We live in the boonies, so that's not all that unusual.
I'm still nervous.
I just need a gigantic glass of wine (which I don't have), a bath (which I have no time to take-cleanup duty falls to ME and me alone when the daddy's gone) and a book (reminder: dead Kindle).
Pretty fun little evening ahead of me.
The bright spot?
The season finale of True Blood is on in 27 minutes.
In all seriousness (since I know people will read this and worry), we're doing great.
Pray Murphy and his law steer clear for another several weeks so I can come out of this unscathed, mkay?
And because, who doesn't love a sleeping baby or two?
Today's nap.
Gosh I love them.
Another random occurrence. My skin is rejecting my engagement and wedding rings.
I do a lot of hand washing (more on that someday), so I think this is just soap getting caught under the rings and causing irritation.
It hurts.
Tomorrow Cara and I start day UNO of our new workout routine.
As it turns out the weight of toddler twins in a stroller amps up your workout.
Holla!
Maybe you'll start seeing more pictures of me...

{shit}
It finally happened. Fancy repeated one of my favorite swear words. I was emailing pictures to myself from my iPhone and I accidentally erased a few. I said "oh shit" and Fancy, being the almost 17 month old she is, repeated it. She's been saying it on and off all day. Usually when I am looking at my phone. Woops.
So while I love cloth diapering, nothing (and I mean nothing) prepares you for rinsing the poop off of the diapers. I have been rinsing each diaper clean and laying it out to dry. When its dry I throw it in the basket/pail. I know that's a lot of work, but I can't let poop sit. Not gonna lie, handling the poop is rough. We got the diaper sprayer a friend (Thanks!) sent but I need an attachement for our toilet to hook it up correctly. I'm kind of struggling to find the perfect wash routine. The poopy diapers still have a faint smell when they come out, which indicates bacteria. Not good. I'm getting mildly frustrated. I'm doing what all the websites/my cloth momma friends/cloth fb groups I'm in say and still coming out with stink. I'm not giving up, I'm determined to be successful here. I mean, I've got 22 diapers on the way and another 12 not far behind. I'll get the hang of things...right?
So I know the "guess what my beautiful, sweet, incredibly intelligent, nearly perfect babies did today" posts get old, but its kind of the point of the blog, so I'll proceed :) Every morning we have a
routine. I go in the nursery and say "Good MORNING!" and they get all excited and start dancing around. We change diapers and we all walk into the kitchen for breakfast. I put them in their high chairs and turn the alarm off to let Nellie out. When Nellie comes back in from doing her bidness I say "Good Girl Nellie!"
This morning BOTH of the babies said "Guh Guh Nee Nee!" when she came back in. Nellie and I were both so shocked we turned and looked at them in unison, they started giggling. They're the cutest. Coach is also really in to singing, dancing and doing the hand movements to certain songs. One of those is Itsy Bitsy. He even does the itsy bitsy fingers. Fancy does it too, but Sister Sass can't always be bothered to perform. I'm so amazed by them every single day.
They're watching Sesame Street in all these. Believe it or not this was BEFORE Elmo. They really like Abby Cadabby's flying fairy school. There are also a lot of great kids shows on HBO. Right now though, SS has slipped to second place. They LOVE Dinosaur Train. They go bananas when they hear the song start to play. Its actually a really cute show, I don't even mind watching it. They're usually asleep for Sid the Science Kid, but that's a catchy show too.

{Ee I Ee I Oh}
We have a toy that has farm animals and makes farm animal noises. They've never EVER been interested in this toy. They've looked right past it for the last (almost) year and a half. For some reason, its now a fave. It sings "Old McDonald" and as of today, the babies do too! They've been mimicking the animal noises for a while, but today they caught on to the song. They've been singing it all afternoon. They don't quite have the "oh" part down, but we're close.
Cloth diapering is going well. Well, I guess as great as it can be with only eight diapers. I'm jonesing for the others to start arriving. Its definitely much more involved than disposables, but I'm very happy we're making the switch. The diapers are so much softer and they seem to notice the difference. The laundry aspect of it is a change, but I'm getting the hang of it. Since we didn't start when they were newborns we're learning the ropes with toddler poop. Its jarring, but I believe, very much worth it.

{Reading with the daddy}
This morning the daddy got up with the babies and let me sleep in. What a prince! Toddlers have a way of just zapping the energy right out of you, don't they? I woke up to this:
Lately, love reading. In the past they didn't have the patience to sit and listen to a story, even a short one. We read, but they only sat for a second or two before they were off to bigger and better things. Coach has even been known to destroy books. Over the past couple months they've been bringing us books to read to them. They point and laugh at the funny parts. They say which animal is where and their names. Getting so big. I love when they want to snuggle up and read a book.
Its raining. Again. That's like everyday for the last 6 weeks. I guess all my whining about it never raining in Colorado is coming back to haunt me. Here's another picture from our day downtown. There's a natural parenting store downtown (babywearing wraps, organic lotions, sprays and diaper creams, cloth diapers, breastfeeding support, etc) that sells these precious hats. I already posted the Giraffe and the Frog. Here's the Monster and the Bunny!
Happy Sunday!

{Big ole' babies}
We weighed the babies today on our home scale and we were shocked when the numbers popped up on the scales. Fancy weighs 25lbs (65th %) and Coach weighs a whopping 27lbs (69th %)! Holy chunks! They have always been in the 25th - 40th % for weight. They're getting BIG!
They've been mimicking the faces we make for a while. I started to notice it when Fancy started copying my nervous blinking habit. Anyway, we play this game with them where we make a face and they copy it. Its the funniest! Watching them interpret our expressions is hysterical! Sometimes when they're playing I'll catch them practicing the faces we do. So cute!
We got to skype with my dad and step mom today. The babies said "Papa" and "Nannie" and were just generally hams. They were in awe of the whole experience. They've skyped several times, but I think this is the first time they've actually paid attention. They thought it was so neat to see Papa on the screen and they kept waving and smiling. They're the cutest.
Watching the Hatfields & McCoys on History Channel. AMAZING. I can't believe thsi feud is A) factual and B) went on for so long. Over something really dumb too. The next time we drive home (if we ever drive home) I'm definitely going through WV. The families reportedly get along now and have reunions to commemorate the feud. There are even trails around the area. Someday I'll get there :)
We live in the middle of nowhere and there are farm fields on all sides and for 10 miles each way into either town. We've spotted corn, cotton, soybeans, sweet potatoes and a handful of other things, but the biggest fields have stumped us. Today we figured it out. TOBACCO. NC is a huge producer of tobacco, so this isn't a surprise. No real point to this paragraph, its just something we've wondered for a while. Now we know!
Happy weekend!

{Eat babies eat...please?}
So now that we're on the right track with sleeping (presumably-yes, that's a dangerous game) when will the eating get easier? You can't force feed kids (unfortunately), so I dread mealtime. I spend a lot of time thinking about what they're eating and how I can maximize nutrient intake and what else I can serve to get them to FUCKING EAT.
I get this is part of the toddler roller coaster, but how do I know they're getting what they need? They throw it all on the floor and so we're not only frustrated about them refusing food, but also that we spend an hour + cleaning up the kitchen every night. I don't serve much that's "bad" for them. I've been known to go to Bojangles, scrape off the breading and let them eat the chicken inside. Its all white meat, but I'm sure its processed to hell. This only happened once, so don't string me up just yet.
Its just so frustrating and expensive. What they gobbled up yesterday, they turn their noses up at today. They ate like champs yesterday, but I can tell today is going to be tough. I can't spend all day cooking, hoping they'll eat something. Can I? Everyone tells me to offer them their normal food and if they don't eat it, they don't eat it. When they get hungry, they'll eat. Won't they? Fancy is a carbon copy of me (personality-wise) and she hates to be challenged. This could get ugly.
We're spending a fortune on food that they just throw on the floor or don't eat. If it something that can be reheated, we will save it and serve it for the next meal. I get so caught up in all this I usually end up throwing a lot at them in the hopes that they'll eat SOMETHING. I need to dial this back and if they don't eat, they don't eat. Ugh. I find myself begging them to eat most of the time. Sometimes we get lucky and they humor us.
This morning they got up at SIX O'FUCKING CLOCK. Ya. They normally get up at 8a. I'm tired and frustrated and just need to take a deep breath. Or a nap. I'm gulping heavily creamed coffee like its my job. The daddy is off tomorrow (Thank you Jesus) so hopefully I'll get a little break.
I feel guilty for getting frustrated with them. They're not doing this to annoy me or challenge me. They're acting their age. As much as I complain, these guys are the light of my life. We try to take these challenges in stride and not get too upset/frustrated in front of them. Right now we're playing with their toys and watching Super Why, while they chase each other around the living room saying "sissy!" and "bubba!" and "cheese" and "baby", etc. Its just way too cute!
Yesterday I was looking at a friend's blog with Fancy on my lap. When I scrolled to the pictures of her baby Fancy said "hi baby". She pointed out the babies on TV all day, too. Last night they were taking a bath and I was telling the daddy about it and he asked her if she wanted a baby. She nodded and Coach said "yet" (translation: yes). He asked them if they wanted a baby brother and they both shook their heads no. He asked if they wanted a baby sister and they looked at each other, nodded and said "yet" in unison. I told the daddy, that's 3-1 in favor of a new baby. The babies and I are collaborating though ;) Maybe we'll convince him soon. NOTICE: We're not pregnant.
Coach has been saying "twins" a lot lately. It sounds like "tins". People always ask "are they twins" (at panera alone the other day we got it 6 times) and Coach has started to say "yet tins". Follow that? "Yes, twins", because that's what we always say when we're asked. We ask them if they're twins and they say "awww" and hug each other. A-freaking-dorable.
I haven't taken pictures in a while. My battery is dead and for every 1 good pic I age 20 or 30 blurry, shitty pics. I need to get back at it, they'll be 17 months old in less than a week. OMG. I'll try to get on that. They're making some hilarious faces these days!

{Bring in the pro's}
Our sleep issue had gotten so out of hand we decided to talk to a toddler sleep consultant. Yep, they exist. Two days in and I'm starting to see some big improvements. The first night was rough and they ended up sleeping with us...shhh...but since then its been better. Last night was a tough one for Coach, but once he finally got to sleep he was down for the night.
Here's what I think happened. The are at the age where they naturally drop their second nap. We were going on as usual though, just minus a nap. Apparently, you create a sleep deficit if you drop that nap but don't otherwise compensate. Over time that deficit takes its toll until you're left with tired, stressed out babies. We bumped up their bed time to 7pm and pushed back their one (lonely) nap to after lunch. So they have a full belly for their nap. Today they went down for their nap with no issues (NO CRYING!), but still only slept about an hour. That should improve to 1.5-2.5 hours in time.
I'm feeling better about it now and I'm praying we finally have a workable schedule for them. Its heartbreaking to see your kids scream, and scream, and scream. They are much happier and seem to be adjusting well. Last night at bedtime and then again today at naptime it was almost like they were saying "you finally caught on, momma!". They laid right down, butts in the air, and snuggled in for a snooze.
I hope I didn't just jinx myself.
I've been browsing like a madwoman for cloth diapers that I think will work for us. I have a total of 30 in my virtual shopping carts around the web. I'm pumped to get them! It seems to be quite addicting. I promised the daddy that we'd save $$$ doing this, so I better keep myself in check ;)
Tomorrow I have my HIDA scan. Barf. I hate this stuff. I have to get an iv and lay completely still on a table for 2+ hours. Fucking fun. This is attempt #2 if you'll remember. Lets hope we can at least get the damn iv in this time.
Tomorrow night I'm going to a huge local consigment sale, wish me luck! I hope to find lots of fun toys, gently loved cloth diapers and some fall digs!
Baby funnies:
-Currently Coach is running around the living room with his lawn mower hoisted over his head. He stops every couple seconds to "service it". He pulls the chain and makes the "rr rrrrrr rrr" noise and he checks the gas can and the gears. He's strutting around, thinks he's so cool ;)
-Fancy's favorite word is "cracker", but she says it "ca ca". Everytime she says it when we're in public where people understand spanish, we get some interesting looks.
-My babies are now running around with dipes on their heads, bumping into each other and laughing like clowns. I love them.
Our water bill was almost as expensive as our electric bill last month. I'm seriously considering getting a rain barrel and catching some of this monsoon rain we get 49877 times a day. Why am I paying so fucking much $ for water when its falling from the sky by the TON? Yah, I don't get it either.
I think I'll plan a trip to Oak Island to cheer myself up ;) Oh the joys of living in a coastal state!

{ooey gooey post}
It seems like everyday they discover something new. I guess that's actually the case. Those little toddler brains are like sponges, soaking up everything in reach. Lately, they like to hear me sing. I used to hum/sing to them when they were teeny. I usually sing "Itsy Bitsy Spider" to them in the car when they get squirly and it kind of snowballed from there. They walk up to me and do a little dance. That's their cue for me to start singing. The daddy and I are quite possibly the worst dancers in the world, but we still dance. It seems our little ones love to 'get down' as much as we do.
Commercials, t.v. show intro's, credits, you name it. If it has music, they dance. So stinking ADORABLE. I've been trying to video it, but when they see the iphone/camera they want to play their games on it. Oh I love them. Every day I fall more and more. My heart feels as if it might burst. They're just so wonderful.
My babies have turned into these amazing little people. They're still babies, but somehow not. I'll have to do a personalities post soon. They're so funny. I am in awe of how intelligent they are and how quickly they catch on. We sing the ABC all day long and they're starting to try to mimic what I say. They don't understand the letters or what they mean, but they repeat the sounds they hear. So neat! Other songs they love: "Mary Had a Little Lamb" "Happy Birthday" "ABC" "America The Beautiful" "Twinkle Twinkle" "Mary Mary Quite Contrary" "Row Your Boat" and the list goes on. They looove to hear Momma sing and it warms my heart. They don't hear how tone deaf I am or the fact that I can't carry a tune to save my life. They just smile at me with sparkling eyes and dance. Oh to be that carefree! Gosh I love them :)
This afternoon they got kind of clingy so we got our milk and laid on the couch to watch Toddlers and Tiaras (don't judge). Coach fell right asleep on my chest. Just like he used to when he was a little guy. I loved every second of it. Fancy sat with us a while but then decided she had places to go and people to see. She loved having free range of the toys. She danced around and got back up and laid with us a few times. She also pooped a really stinky poop. Of course she'd do this while I was basking in my Coachie nap love. Confession: I let her sit in it for about 15 minutes until he woke up. No harm, no foul.
They're starting to say short sentences! Pretty exciting. This morning Nellie got something off the table and I said "no no, Nellie." Guess what they said all day? Yep. "nuh nuh, Ney yi." They laughed everytime they said it too. Yesterday Nellie knocked over a toy and they said "uh oh, Ney yi.". They're saying "thank you" much clearer, too. More new words include "shirt" "mommy" (not just momma now, I'm mommy too) "Elvis" (ewis) "help" "sleepy" "yogurt" (yoggi) "down" (as in I want DOWN) "walk" "yes" "cracker" (new tonight!) "paci" and I'm sure there's more. They're getting so big!
They're also starting to really play up the boo-boo's. Anytime they fall or bump a limb they say "oww wi" and come running. I have to give them TONS of love and attention and then kiss the boo boo and give them lots of hugs. I think this is creating a couple monsters though. They want this treatment for even the slightest of ouchies. I'm good with that. My favorite thing on earth is holding/kissing/hugging/loving my babies :)
Almost the weekend! We'll be painting. Try not to be too jealous ;)
We're down to two colors for the kitchen.
Our appliances are black, counter tops are black/brown/gold/tan speckled faux marble and the cabinets are a medium oak color (google it, its darker than you think). We were set on Cork, but I like that the gold pops in the pyramid gold. I think the backsplash (that's not yet in) will tie in better with that too. Hmmm. Guess I better decide!
The colors are pretty much set for the bathrooms, hallway and nursery. Oh so much work to do...
Happy Friday, Y'all!

{Sleep}
So the last two nights Fancy has been waking up screaming. Not just a fus, but a full on give-it-all-you've-got scream. Its so intense and almost like she's afraid of something. I hear her wimper a few minutes before the scream comes and when I go in there to check on her its like I can't get her out of her crib fast enough. She calms immediately when I pick her up. If I try to put her back in she screams until she gags/can't breath.
Tonight she went down fine at bed time, but woke up a couple hours later. I went in to get her, calmed her down, rocked her and put her back in. She screamed so hard, with such intensity. Its really frightening to watch her get so upset. Rinse and repeat a couple times and then I just decided to hold her until she fell asleep. I just put her back down and she seems to be doing ok. I looked at her gums and she's got four big bulges where I'd think her molars might be trying to errupt. They're not red though. I gave her some baby ibuprofen and she seems to be doing better. I'm at a loss and its heartbreaking to watch your child like this.
I've been reading that night terrors could be a side effect of molar teething. She's been tugging at her ears an awful lot. Sometimes you can't help but cry along with them when they're like this. Its so hard to not know what's going on or how to help. She looks at me expectantly, wondering why I'm not helping her more. Heartbreaking. The ibuprofen seems to have helped. My anxiety has kicked into overdrive and a million things are going through my head.
They've never had a problem with teething. Fancy might get a little agitated, but nothing crazy. Nothing like this. Coach has 16 teeth and is cutting more and you'd never know he cut all four molars at the same time. I've heard molars are tough, but she doesn't seem to be reacting to pain. It seems like something is scaring her.
Today we went to the children's interactive museum in downtown Fayetteville with a friend and her twin boys. L&G are a month older than Coach and Fancy and it was so fun to see them all together. Also, reassuring to see that her boys have the same toddler tendencies ;) Both of us were so worn out after that! We went to a coffee shop after that and walked around downtown Fay. It was a good time!
Please keep our little gal in your thoughts. And maybe her momma too, I have a hard time with this stuff.

{Words with twins}
These kids are talking up a storm! They repeat everything they hear (or try to at least). Some new words lately include "thank you" "bye bye" "Bubba" "Sissy" "doggy" "toes" "kiss" "huggie" "booty" "Elvis"-our cat, sounds like "Ewis" and the list goes on. I was editing some pictures yesterday and they were pointing at pictures of themselves saying "sissy" and "bubby" and "nana" (their word for Fancy's name) and "Muh" (their word for Coach's name) heart crushingly adorable. They get so excited when they recognize themselves or each other on the computer. They also say "baby" when I look at friend's baby pics on fb. They're understading what we say as well. If I ask them to go put a certain toy in a certain place, they do! We're going to start working on helping momma clean up the living room :)
Sharing is going well. Coach is so funny, he always brings two of something when he's playing and gives one to his sister. Fancy is doing well, but is having a little bit of a harder time. If she has two of something and we ask her to share she usually runs around for a little bit (with Coach chasing her) and then throws down one of whatever she has in Coach's general direction. Usually she does really well, but that's been an issue lately. We're getting there. They're still the cutest little people EVER.
Its been so nice outside lately. This rain actually does have a purpose! Tonight we went for a nice little stroll around the neighborhood. Pointing at some houses we'd like to mimic and others we wish would get their shit together. Is it that hard to mow your fucking lawn and weed your garden? I feel a little sad there isn't an HOA forcing this particular family to mow. We live in a 100% military/cop neighborhood. Those are some of the most together and neat men and women on the planet. Here's to hoping there's a deployment involved and they get their act together soon. They waved to us and said hi as we passed so I felt momentarily shitty for thinking ugly things about their yard...only momentarily though.
Thank goodness that house is on a side street. Anyone potentially buying our house in the distant future maybe won't see that. We have sand instead of soil. Nothing grows well here and after a matter of a year or so, all of our sod has been overtaken by these sand monster weeds. Our whole front yard is some sort of mini-trees. You know what else does really well in sand? RED FUCKING ANTS. Annoying doesn't even begin to cover it.
I find myself missing Colorado lately. Maybe its this hellish heat, I don't know. I think another trip to Carolina Beach is in order to cure this pesky feeling. Tomorrow I'm meeting some fun ladies for wine, hopefully that makes this hot, sticky, sandy, stormy place starts to feel more like home :) Well, that and FINALLY buying paint for the projects we have going in our heads.
And finally, I leave you with this because they're irresistably cute.

I mean, really. How cute are they? Happy weekend!

{Another one bites the dust}
Our old spidey friend has gone to meet his maker. I was a little sad to see him go.
We went to Cary today to shop. Its a nice city. Nice change of scenery. Hit up the usual haunts, bought some baby clothes (24m, eek!), ate some Mimi's, drove home to the hum of a fabulous southern thunder storm. It was a good day. The babies ate well, took a great nap and were amazing at dinner. We got to breathe a little and enjoy the incredible personalities of these little people. The mall was a little dicey. The babies wanted to walk and meet people. When we picked them up or tried to direct them which way to go...mayhem.
Thats the toddler way sometimes. We ignore it for the most part, after explaining why we're picking them up or turning them around. Of course they don't understand right now, but they will. I'm starting to see a spark of realization. They're so sweet, it breaks my heart to see them get upset and not understand why I won't let them do what they want. I hope this gets easier soon.
Because they were so great during our excursions today (for the most part) we stopped at Target to get a toy we've been eyeing for a while. We played a little before bed and they seem to be completely enamored. I just love them.
We're hoping to try out a new church tomorrow (or next week). I'm excited, but nervous. Its hard to be the newcomer. Wish us luck!
Speaking of luck and prayers, I'm having a HIDA scan Monday. I'm not excited. I'm petrified. I hate this stuff.
