Obviously, its not much different than life with 11 month olds, but somehow they seem less like babies and more like big kids. Maybe its the crossover into year two. I find myself finally missing those little bitty babies we brought into the world one year and six days ago. I also find myself excited about all the toddler fun we have ahead of us. Its a strange place for a momma to be.
Life continues pretty much as normal. We have 2 months until our PCS to the southland. I'm excited, but scared about all the shit we have ahead of us: buying a house, getting out of our base rental (more on this below), packing, the actual trip there with 15 month old twins... Just a LOT going on!
As far as our base town house, we've lived here for 3.5 years and we have pets and kids. I'm TERRIFIED that they will charge us $$$ for normal wear and tear and an area one of our pets ripped up some fiber on the carpet in our upstairs hall. Of course, I expect to pay for the repairs, but I'm just so scared they'll gouge us. So many horror stories fly around about our housing office charging $5000 for damages. It makes my stomach lurch to think about it. Their website says normal wear and tear is permissible, but I'm just dreading that initial walk through. I've been scrubbing bathrooms and baseboards with bleach all week. Pray for us in the next couple months.
On the M front, he finally graduated ALS and life is returning to normal. We're expecting orders to be cut April 1 for our June 1 departure. He's pretty much just working normal schedules until we leave. Fingers crossed for a relatively stress free next two months...RIGHT :)
Sorry, that's super boring, but I have two crabby little turkeys to get bottles and to bed.

{A 1st birthday recap}
Our sweet twins turned ONE last Thursday and I've spent the better part of the last four days trying to recap the last 12 months. Impossible when the first 3 are a blur :) You can thank newborn twins for that! I think that's how mom's of multiples survive. They go into this sort of robotic mode. Otherwise, its just too stressful.
Though, if you're asking, I think mobile (tantrum throwing) twins are MUCH harder than the newborn stage. We were at Best Buy the other night and a guy stopped us and said "twins?" and we nodded. He said "oh you're in the hardest stage right now, give me newborns over toddlers any day." I could have kissed him. He just verified everything I'd been feeling lately. I was sure it was just me and that I just sucked and couldn't hack it. NOPE. Twin toddlers are TOUGH. Sweet, but tough.
Anyway, back to the birthday. All day Thursday it was just me and them for most of the day. M graduated ALS that evening and he spent much of the day preparing for that in class. It was a normal day. I sang "Happy Birthday" to them too many times to count and they laughed and thought it was the greatest. That night my dad, step-mom, brother and grandpa came into town and we had dinner with them. Low key, it was great. Friday we did the tourist thing, 16th Street Mall and Idaho Springs (Beaujo's) for dinner.
Saturday we ran and picked up the food, cakes, balloons, etc. It was a great day. Chill, fun and just how we hoped to celebrate the babies first year. They're such miracles, I can't even believe it some days. I'm so thankful for these two sweet kiddos. I fall more in love every day.
Getting cleaned up for the party!
She has a thing with the faucet. She's so cute.
Twins are so fun! Always someone to play with.
Laughing at/with Daddy!

We dig our new Mega Blocks table!
Cake! Rasberry filled, yum! This was the richest cake I've ever had, but probably the best.
Smash cupcakes
Blowing out their candles for them. I was too choked up to sing. Seriously. I cried every time I tried to sing so I just stopped and smiled at them instead :)
First taste...
Gettin' dirty
Sugar coma
Loving on Grammy
Papa is so much fun, so are TJ Maxx receipts.
Water bottles are way better than our toys!
My cup runneth over :)
We forgot our party hats at the party, so we wore them for breakfast the next morning.
I have 300+ pictures from the day, so you're lucky this is all I posted ;) It was a wonderful birthday, a wonderful party and they are just completely amazingly wonderful babies. Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes!
Stats:
Coach-Almost 22lbs! No idea on length, etc. We just weighed them on our bathroom scale. He stands all by himself, has 8 teeth and dances like a fool! He walks only holding one hand and he has some basic words (that I've mentioned before). He's such a love and gives hugs and kisses when we ask for them. He's also started throwing tantrums. You know, the kind where they throw their heads back. Yeah. He's also started hiding things. I'll ask him to please give me whatever he has that he's not supposed to have and he'll crawl away and put it behind his back or hide it. Tricky little man!
Fancy-Almost 21lbs! See above. They're neck and neck at this point!

{3.21.11}
On March 21, 2011 I spent my day scared poopless. I was less than 24 hours from becoming a first time mom to twins. I was about to have major abdominal surgery, which I would be awake for and have to get a shot in my spine for. Our whole world was about to flip. I was also ridiculously excited. I was excited to meet these two miracles I'd prayed for all of my life. I was excited to not be so large and uncomfortable. I'm thankful I was able to get to 36 weeks, but there's no way I would have made it to 38. My body was DONE. Ideally, it would have been nice to have been pregnancy longer though. If I could have avoided NICU time for my babes I would have.
M was home scrubbing the house from top to bottom trying to prepare himself and Nellie (dog) for all the big changes coming our way. He says he watched some Lost, went to crossfit and spent the entire sleepless night contemplating his last hours before he met our babies. He was nervous too.
A lot of my antepartum nurses came in and out all day trying to keep me occupied so I wouldn't stress/worry, etc. They were fabulous. FABULOUS. They'd been there for me for the last 4 weeks. I knew delivery day would come, but I hadn't thought about just how anxious those last 24 hours would be.
@ 9am on 3/22 preparations for delivery began. Time escalated so quickly from that point on. In fact, I'm not sure it's slowed down yet!
I'm not sure if I'll be on to post a birthday post tomorrow or not. We've got family coming in and I've got tons to finish up. I'm hoping I can make the time! If not, here's their arrival post I posted a couple days after they were born and Birth Story Part 1, Birth Story Part 2 and Addendums to the birth story. Just in case I don't get on to re-hash all the events of their birth, you can stay busy with those :)
We've been singing "Happy Birthday" all week to the babies and each time I start the song they go crazy! I'm so butt-crazy in love with these two.

{anywhere chairs}
We caved and finally ordered Coach and Fancy's very first birthday present from momma and daddy. I had a ridiculous time trying to choose a color, font and size for each baby. We landed on simple-the theme of my 2012. Coach's chair is navy with white typewriter writing and Fancy's is bright pink with white typewriter writing. I loved some of the applique and floral chairs they had, but lets be honest, when you have to buy everything in twos, you go take the most economical route to style :) God knew what he was doing by ONLY giving me twins this time around. I'm not sure how some of my triplet mom friends do it!
I'm excited to get them here! Not that they'll sit in them long enough for me to take pictures, but hey, they now have chairs with their names on them. We also went with the regular sized chairs. I was really confused as to whether or not they needed the oversized chairs, but some of my multi-momma's assured me that they're older kids still fit great in theirs. PLUS, with all our toys, we don't have tons of room and who knows what our space situation will be in our new house in NC.
Speaking of birthday's we're officially in the planning stage. In two days, they'll be ELEVEN months old. I have four weeks to get my shit together and figure out cakes, food, decor and outfits. Oh and who's going to come clean my house?!? The good news is, only our nearest and dearest are making the trip for our little one's special day and I think they understand how difficult it is to keep a spotless home.
I'm still not sure of the theme, I'll be scouring the internet in the next couple weeks looking for the perfect color scheme. I'm really not this psycho about it all, I think its just the nerves/reality hitting me. I mean, my 5lb itty, bitty, teeny babies are turning ONE in four weeks. They're starting to talk, walk (with some help) and become little tiny humans. They're really not babies anymore. Surprisingly, this doesn't make me all that sad. Its so amazing to see them learn, grow and turn into little people.
I guess I'll have my days here and there where I wonder where the time has gone and miss my little babies. Part of me thinks that since we plan on having more, we're not mourning the newborn stage. If that makes sense. Anyway, my appointment is tomorrow and I'm pretty nervous. Please keep me in your thoughts/prayers. I appreciate it :)
