{18 month well baby}

As the post title subtly hints at, the babies had their 18 month well baby today.  They love Dr H, as do we and they were climbing all over him today as we caught up and talked milestones.  They didn't care for the nurses taking their stats or getting checked out by Dr H.  Fancy screamed through the entire exam.  She hated the stethoscope, getting her temp taken, getting her ears checked out and the only thing she really quieted down for was the belly palpitation and the diaper check.  Once it was over, she was back to loving Dr H.

Coach was his chill self.  He kicked back and enjoyed his exam.  He tried to protest initially, to copycat his sister, but he realized it wasn't all that bad and he chilled out.  Dr H said they both look great.  Their motor skills are perfect, even a little advanced for their age.  He was really impressed with their speech.  Its always good to impress a doctor, right?  We're just happy they're healthy :)

Next was the shots.  Ugh.  I hate to see them scream.  As soon as we walked down to immunizations and into that room Fancy knew something was up.  I laid her back on the bed and she immediately started kicking and screaming.  The nurse plunged the shots in quickly and that was it.  She hollered for a good 10 minutes, but she stopped when it was Coach's turn.  She really hates to see him upset.  He was especially pissed today.

When it was his turn for shots she got the first one done with no issue.  When she stuck the second one in, he jerked his leg and kicked the needle out.  It scraped up the side of his leg and of course she had to plunge it in again to dispense the rest of the vax.  I don't think he took a breath for a good minute.  He was sooo mad.  :(  It took everything I had to keep it together.

We whisked them up and squeezed them tight.  That almost immediately stopped the tears.  They were giggling by the time we got to the car and so far we haven't seen any ill effects.  I'm watching closely, though.  Their naptime fell right in the middle of the appointment, so no nap + 2 shots =  a couple of sleepy babies.  They were out by 6:30p

Stats:

Coach
27lbs
31.75in tall
18.75in head circ
Roughly 50th %.

Fancy
23.5lbs
30.25in tall
18in head circ
Roughly 25th %

Keeping with their curves.  Fancy is still our little peanut.  I'm really freaking out about the 2T clothes I bought from Old Navy, now.  Eek.  I've heard they run small though, so we'll see.  Maybe he'll grow into them this season.

Snuggles

Somehow still their usual, happy selves even after shots

Little man and his poor vax scratch

Thanks for teaching me how do to this face daddy.
I asked him to show me the toy he was playing with and he turned around and gave me this look.

She loves bottles

Well friends, we've made it through Monday!  The good news is, no more Monday's for a whole week :)  Have a great week!

{18 months}

 Our darling little loves are a year and a half old!  I just fall more in love each day.  They're incredible little people.  Incredible little people who are refusing to nap currently, but I guess that's the way it goes in toddlerville.  This is such a fun age!  We're always laughing at the hysterical and original stuff they come up with.  Such imagination, innocence and unbridled fascination.

They want to know how everything works.  What's inside, under and behind.  They are discovering different textures-sand, grass, etc.  They are completely obsessed with animals.  They make animal noises and are talking up a storm.  They are starting to speak in short sentences and are running all over the place.  "I do it" is a big thing in our house right now.  The days of hanging out, content in the stroller are over.  There's just way too much for them to discover!  Its a good thing there are two of us (the daddy and I)!

Cloth diapering is going well.  We use them about 90% of the time.  I haven't found a good overnight diaper yet.  Taking suggestions for toddler overnight cloth if anyone has them!  I'm thinking of trying the Kawaii Heavy Wetters.  We use disposables at night and when we travel.  I'm still waiting on an order (that I placed in effing AUGUST through a co-op) that will put us at capacity.  I ordered them and the company botched the order so over a month later we're all still waiting.  FRUSTRATING, but I think things are getting ironed out...maybe?

The babies are still hovering around 27-28lbs (Coach) and 24-25lbs (Fancy) and I have no idea about height or head circumference.  Meal times are trying.  Some days we find the magic meal and they gobble it up and others they eat only fruit and goldfish all day.  Its incredibly frustrating, but we're making our way through it.  Naps are still shitty.  I think that's just a fact of life.  They sleep well at night (12-13 hours) and they go to bed really easily at 7pm on the nose every night.

Tantrums are still very much a part of life here and I'd guess they're getting worse.  I hear they do that.  I've found myself giving in on some occasions just to make them stop screaming.  When I concede to whatever it is they're freaking out about, the tears immediately stop and I get an evil "I win!" grin.  Again...frustrating.  I know you can't give in or else we'll be raising monsters.  I'm pretty firm at home, but in public, when shit hits the fan I'm a complete softy.  They win 100% of the time.  I need to work on this.

Fighting is another struggle.  Despite having two of everything, they still fight.  They fight over who gets to hug the baby doll in the morning.  They fight over Mr Potato Head.  They fight over who gets to turn the page when we're reading books.  Coach likes to edge Fancy out so he has our undivided attention.  Of course, we correct this so Fancy can see whatever we're doing.  They fight over who gets to pet Nellie and where.  Oh the fighting.  Its intense!

Fighting is just part of having a sibling.  Its inevitable.  Along with the fighting, they do a lot of loving too.  Sometimes when they're playing, out of nowhere one will lean over and hug/kiss the other.  They are starting to get the hang of sharing (some days) and they love snuggling together.  They don't like to be too far from each other.  If they're running around they always look to make sure their twin is in eye shot.

And without further adieu, what you really came here for, the pictures!

Attempted 18 month photoshoot...

Quite possibly my four favorite pictures of them EVER

Happy Saturday!  Have a fabulous weekend!

{Inching up on 18 months}

Only a truly obsessed mom would write a prelude to a monthday post a week before its due.  This is incredibly cliche, but I cannot believe that in a little under a week our babies will be one and a HALF.  That half is serious bidness.  Soon we won't state their ages in months, it will be years and half years.  I remember being a kid.  The half is a big deal.  One half a year closer...

I've been going back in my blog to see what we were doing last year at this time.  9/16/11 and on the same day Agnes.  Isn't it funny that Agnes and Baby Rosie showed up around the same time, just a year apart?  Weird.  I love this one about Coachie stealing his sister's paci.  I'm thankful that I have this blog to look back on our everyday life, things I know I would have forgotten are recorded here.

On Friday I'll read my 6 month post from 9/22/11 and reminisce just for a minute about when my babies were little.  I love how I thought they were so big back then.  How can that have been a whole year ago?

Flashback time!

Sleeping sweeties.  I miss co-sleeping.  We co-slept last week when we were all sick, but toddlers are such fitfull sleepers.  Its impossible to get comfortable when they're in bed.  It was sweet to wake up with them next to me, though.

Sister Sass right around the time her sassy card came in the mail.

Side smile!

Candy cane babies!

Wally!  I miss these bugs.  Hours and hours of fun...in one place.

Pretty in purple.

Its so fun to compare their first half year to their first year and a half.  Such big kids!

My friend Kristin delivered a healthy and completely gorgeous baby girl this afternoon!  Congratulations C family!!!
