Southern living

Ok, the accents are as thick as the air. I feel like everyone looks at me so strange when I speak. A vacuum guy came to the door this morning and I had the hardest time understanding him. I'm totally a fish out of water.

The air smells like greenery and dampness and it's just sticky. I actually like it! A neighbor came by last night to invite us to a BBQ and said this is unseasonably mild. It's going to get waaay hotter and waaay stickier. I'll be at the beach
:)

We found out the 'hood' is 99% military. There are 2 contractors, o e cop and one civi family. The neighbor told us we basically live on Wisteria Lane. Great. After leaving base housing I was looking forward to no drama. I plan on keeping a friendly, low profile.

Our house is about 60% unpacked. I'm severely unmotivated to unpack the rest. We don't get cable or Internet until fucking Friday. I'm typing this up on my phone. Gonna be a big bill this month!

We are getting paint, ceiling fans and a new kitchen faucet to install next week. No idea what colors to paint the rooms (except the nursery). Our ac went out on day 2 and we had to have someone come out to fix it. Thank goodness for this mild weather ;). Seems hot to me, but I've been corrected many times.

I've see more bugs in my short time here than in all 3.5 years in Denver. My skin is crawling. I saw a HUGE roach outside the garage and I almost puked. He died a slow, painful death. I'm already looking for natural pest repellents. We're clean, but I'm told that even the cleanest home has the occasional roach/spider/etc. Fucking nasty. I don't do roaches.

Other than that, we're adjusting well. We live in the boonies! It's hard to not have much of a selection (stores), when we had everything we could ever dream of in denver. The closest good mall is in Raleigh, an our away. Learning to live the slow, simple life way down here.

Planning a Raleigh shopping trip and a beach trip in the next couple weeks! I have lots more to blog about, but it will have to wait until we get internet.

Souther baby clothes are the cutest!

  1. Oh yes, get ready for roaches!! I have a guy come and spray quarterly as preventative maintenance. Glad y'all made it there safely. Hope the south is everything you'd hoped for. I'm ready to get outta here!! :-)

PS. How did you pack with babies around? I am starting to have panic attacks about trying to get our house packed with having to simultaneously tend to Maddie. Any pointers?!

  2. The bugs are absolutely, 100%, hands DOWN, my least favorite thing about life in the South. They are EVERYWHERE and they are fucking huge. I second the preventative bug spray. And get the big jug of Home Defense spray with the hand held nozzle. Life saver. Kills everything. We spray our patio down to keep wasps, daddy long legs, red ants, etc away so that Isaac isn't bombarded just for walking out to play! :) Can't wait to see pictures, as usual. I hope you get to the becah soon!
