{Time on the Katy}

One of the great things about beloved Missouri is the Katy Trail.  Its an old trail that goes all over the state and was laid on what used to be the MKT (Missouri Kansas Texas) Railroad lines.  Its STUNNING.  Near CoMo, it hugs the Missouri River.  Not much less magnificent than her sister the Mighty Mississippi.  Its so beautiful.  Here are some pictures from our little trip down to Rochport and our time on the Katy.

Missouri River.  The rock line is a Corps of Engineers project to keep the barges in the shipping lanes.

Exposed sand bank.  We saw an Egret.  Its a bird that looks like a pelican.  Surprisingly, very neat to see up close.

This is an old dynamite shelter when they were building the railroad through here.  Look how damp it is, not a great place for storing dynamite.

It was a fun day!  We attempted to go to the oldest living tree in Missouri (over 350 years old!), but Fancy the roads were windy and Fancy was getting carsick, so we had to turn around.  In her defense, those roads were horrid.  Tomorrow we're off to my hometown to round out our last week here.  Cramming lots of fun into this weekend and then M comes through on Monday or Tuesday to start the last leg of our journey to NC.  Whew, what a while ride!  Its been fun though!
